Zyvex Technologies scientist participates in “Science as Art Competition” and turns an image of nanomaterials into a geyser. Dr. Iti Srivastava, a composite research scientist for Zyvex Technologies, has taken part in the Materials Research Society (MRS) annual “Science as Art Competition.” Dr. Srivastava’s piece “Old Faithful: A miniature,” is based on an optical micrograph of a nanocomposite used during advanced materials research at Zyvex Technologies.
To turn images of carbon and other materials on the molecular level into a piece of art, Dr. Srivastava applied a few subtle changes to supplement an abstract landscape. After a re-colorization, the particle on the nano scale resembles a giant force of nature. The pastiche is rendered and colorized, pastel shades magnifying the existing likeness to a natural geyser. The epoxy based nanocomposite is used in the commercial world on a prototype aerospace qualification effort.
